New Poetry Collection Announcement

1+1=2

That’s the equation behind any kind of non-creative work. Its products are always explicable.

1+1=3

This is the equation behind all art. It’s just never fully comprehensible.

If we are to break both equations down, though, we’d find that the following is true in each case:

A human being + Work materials = An end product

And since any person that I’ve ever met is capable of creating art, then there are a few questions worth asking:

  • What’s so special about the materials of art that they manage to turn math on its head?
  • Why do we praise the artist and the artwork, but the materials never get any of the credit?
  • What are those materials anyway?
  • Where do you find them?

This is the most efficient way I found to explain what my next poetry collection is going to be about without revealing too much.

Provisionally called “Written By a Poem”, it will be made up of poems forming a narrative, though each could also exist on its own and still make complete sense.

Over the next months I will share them all on Vanauthor. Some may still be at a draft stage. Others may be ready to go.

In any case, if you want to part of my process in more than one way — be the first to see the poems, give feedback, ask questions, share your reactions with me, I invite you to go ahead and subscribe to my newsletter. Posts over there will also provide insights on each poem (e.g. how did I come up with a certain line/character/setting).

Along with my work related to “Written By a Poem”, you can also expect bonus posts — poems, songs, essays, things I was inspired by, etc. Some will also be posted here, on Medium. But not all.

Over there, you will also find a free link to the digital version of my first poetry collection “16 Bullets and a Bouquet”.

Follow the whole process on my Instagram (@vanauthor_), where I’ll share behind-the-scenes and some other cool stuff.

Time for 1+1=3
